Felting
1-800-941-2556
Felting is the ancient art of making fabric from wool or other fibers by matting the fibers together. Wool fibers are covered with microscopic scales. When pressure, moisture and heat are applied to them, the scales grab together-- thus forming a solid fabric. The more pressure that is applied, the more firm the felt becomes.
In traditional felting, layers of wool are placed in varying directions. Soap and hot water are added and then the wool is agitated to make the fibers mat together.
In recent years, needle felting has become very popular. Felting needles have barbs which help make the scales on the wool grab together and form felt. Needlefelting can be used to make both flat felt and sculptures.
Blue Goose Glen offers needle felting kits and patterns, felting needles and supplies, as well as wool and other fibers that are suitable for both wet and dry felting.
